36 -- OFFLINE CURRENCY INSPECTION SYSTEM Contact Darryl S. Grant, Contract Specialist, 202/874-3256. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is seeking sources to supply a offline system to inspect and evaluate the quality of all United States Currency denominations ($1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100). Based on the print quality evaluations, the system must control the operation of the BEP's existing Processing Equipment to direct acceptable and unacceptable currency into separate piles. Types of Flaws: The system must detect printing and non-printing flaws on the printed sheet. In addition, the system must also evaluate the registration of the printed image in relation to the security thread and watermark used on the higher currency denominations. Inspection Resolution: A currency sheet has an area of approximately .338 m2 (524 inches2). The inspection system must be capable of detecting changes in print density from 10% to 100% based on the opaque area of a screen containing 150 lines per inch. The system must be capable of detecting the presence of flaws in both the printed and non-printed areas of a note ranging in size from .030 to .125 inches square. Production Rate: At a minimum, the rate of inspection and processing must be performed on up to 7,000 sheets per hour (2 sheets/second). A draft specification will be issued to all interested sources for comment as well as for information purposes. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this specification, or otherwise pay for the information solicited. All interested sources should request a copy of the draft specification within fifteen (15) days after publication of this notice. Comments on the draft specification and information requested should be submitted to the BEP no later than May 31, 1996. Request should be submitted in writing to the above address. (113)
