The Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) intends to contract with General Dynamics Corporation, Electric Boat Division (GDEB), Groton, CT for research and development effort. Specifically, GDEB will conduct studies, investigations, tests and evaluations on the impact and feasibility of incorporating Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) hardware and software into Strategic Weapon System (SWS) and Strategic Weapon Support System (SWS) Equipment. As the TRIDENT ship design agent, GDEB is the only known source possessing the facilities and expertise to perform the proposed effort within existing cost and schedule constraints. See Note 22.
