Executive Blvd, EPS/Room 603, MSC 7220, Bethesda MD 20892-7220 H -- COMPUTER BASED SEARCHES FOR CHEMICAL STRUCTURES SOL
NCI-CM-67247-08 DUE 040196 POC Mr. Todd C. Cole, Contract Specialist,
(301) 496-8620. One cost-reimbursement contract is expected to be
awarded to assist the Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP),
Division of Cancer Treatment Diagnosis and Centers (DCTDC) of the
National Cancer Institute (NCI). The DTP database includes chemical and
biological information on approximately 500,000 compounds. There is a
continuing need to perform high volume computerized full and
substructure chemical searches of the DTP database in support of
various segments of the Program, including: compound acquisition,
compound screening and evaluation committees, National Cooperative Drug
Discovery Groups, and grantee requests. Other searches involve
published literature databases, such as STN and DIALOG, to provide the
Drug Synthesis and Chemistry Branch (DS&CB) and Pharmaceutical
Resources Branch (PRB) with rapid access to citations relevant to the
resynthesis effort. Systematic nomenclature also is generated for
selected compounds. The Contractor shall support the Developmental
Therapeutics Program through the described substructure and full
structure chemical searches as well as data item searches.
Bibliographic searches shall be performed utilizing databases such as
NLM/MEDLARS, STN, DIALOG, and other systems. The Contractor shall
analyze each request, develop an appropriate search strategy, phrase
the search question, process the query interactively, check and review
the output, and generate the output report. The Contractor shall
generate systematic nomenclature for selected compounds. The Principal
Investigator shall have a Masters Degree in organic chemistry or
equivalent experience. In addition, the Principal Investigator shall
have training in chemical documentation and retrieval and substructure
searching. The availability of an additional chemist with chemical
nomenclature knowledge and experience for four to eight hours a week is
also preferable. The Contractor shall perform the work ''on-site'' at
the DTP offices located on 6130 Executive Boulevard in Rockville,
Maryland. Adequate space and equipment for performance of the work will
be provided. The proposed contract is 100 percent set-aside for small
