Hawkins, Contracting Officer, (301) 435-0366. The National Heart, Lung,
and Blood Institute intends to purchase a Somat Hydra-Extractor model
HE-6S or equal. This unit shall consist of a shell, head, water
extracting mechanism, drive motor, 5 HP return pump with TEFC motor,
valve package, control panel, automatic rinse system, chemical additive
pump, stainless steel discharge chute and carbon steel stand. The shell
shall be a stainless steel weldment with supporting frame, motor mount,
removable polished stainless steel access cover and discharge chute
with limit switch. The head shall be a rigid machined stainless steel
weldment, bolted to shell. The water extracting mechanism shall consist
of a 6 inches (.15m) diameter stainless steel screw with helicoid
flight reinforced at final extraction point with stainless steel
encased nylon brush edge, stainless steel plug cutter, machined shaft
and keyway for drive sprocket, and matching 6 inches (.15m) diameter
reinforced stainless steel screen. The screw shall be supported in the
head section by a combination radial and thrust bearing. The extractor
shall be driven by a 2 HP, TEFC motor, mounted to a 25:1 gear reducer.
The return pump with 5 HP motor shall be equipped with an integrally
piped pump with mechanical shaft seal for positive protection against
leakage. The valve package shall include all valves required for proper
operation fresh water rinse, return and drain lines. Control panel
shall be NEMA 4, stainless steel, wall mounted, U.L. approved and
includes all the necessary electrical components prewired to a terminal
strip. Unit shall operate on 480 volts, 3 phase, 60 Hz electrical
power. The discharge chute and stand shall be of length and height to
permit pulper interface with pulp screw conveyor. Stand shall be 50
inches high. Installation: Set in place the extractor and stand
positioning it with the existing PSC hopper, modify chute and hopper as
required, anchor to floor. Intercept the existing two - 2 inch
pipelines (one slurry/one return) and reroute to the new extractor for
connection. Remove existing tee's in building #14-H pipeline and
totally isolate from building #14-C system. Install new ''SOM-A-TOL''
panel, connect wiring from existing panel for power feed and system
controls, including wiring each motor and control devices. Make all
final piping connections: 2'' slurry, 2'' return, 1-1/2'' MOV drain,
3'' overflow and 1/2'' hot fresh water line. Shall confirm system
operation at buildings 14-C and 14-H, confirm no plumbing leaks and
that all piping is properly braced and supported. Shall demonstrate
operation and maintenance of both systems to NIH personnel. Vendors
capable of furnishing the government with equipment specified in this
