COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 13,1996 PSA#1550Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 7000 East Avenue, Livermore, CA
94550 A -- LAWRENCE LIVERMORE NATIONAL LABORATORY SEEKS PARTNERSHIPS WITH
INDUSTRY TO COMMERCIALIZE AND MARKET CROSS DISPERSION INFRARED
SPECTROMETER TECHNOLOGY POC For further information, contact Industrial
Partnerships & Commercialization, at (510) 423-3139. Announcement The
Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) operated by the
University of California under contract with the US Department of
Energy (DOE) is seeking US companies interested in licensing or
participating in a cooperative research and development agreement to
commercialize cross-dispersion infrared spectrometer (CDIRS)
technology. LLNL has developed compact spectrometer prototypes that
utilize high precision, chemically etched, silicon echelle gratings to
create 2-dimensional spectral formats tailored to IR detector arrays.
The instruments operate with no moving components covering the entire
mid and long wave infrared region. Diffraction limited performance
with resolving powers up to 10,000 can be achieved in liter sized
spectrometer volumes. The potential commercial advantages of this
technology are its design simplicity for each of manufacture, low
maintenance requirements and exceedingly high sensitivity. The high
performance instrument provides superior signal to noise performance
over comparable Fourier transform instruments. Market applications are
anticipated for research instruments, industrial process monitors,
environmental monitors and remote atmospheric monitors from ground,
airborne and satellite platforms. LLNL is seeking licensees for each of
the potential market opportunities and a separate licensee for the
silicon grating fabrication technology. The partnerships will be
coordinated through Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization at
LLNL. Moving critical technology beyond the Laboratory to the
commercial world helps our US licensees gain a competitive edge in the
marketplace. The University of California's Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory can license technology through exclusive or
non-exclusive licensing agreements, as appropriate. Cooperative
research and development agreements (CRADAs) are structured to offer
partner companies the opportunity to license LLNL technologies at the
end of the project. All projects are conducted under policies related
to the strict nondisclosure of company proprietary information. Any or
all portions of this technology can be licensed or developed into a
CRADA. If you are interested in working with LLNL on commercialization
of this technology, please respond in writing within 45 days of this
announcement. Provide a short (two page maximum) description of company
history, experience in the field, present position in the market, and
ability to commercialize the results of this joint effort. Please send
this information to: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory;
Industrial Partnerships and Commercialization; Attn: Infrared
Spectrometer Technology; P.O. Box 808, L-795, Livermore, CA 94551.
