COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MARCH 5,1996 PSA#1544PROGRAM INTEREST POC Dr. Wallace Smith, ONR 332 (703) 696-0284. The
Materials Division of the Office of Naval Research announces a program
interest in the area of Materials and Processes for Undersea
Ultrasonic Imaging Transducers. This research and development thrust on
transducer materials/devices targets systems/applications in three
areas: (1) diver-held imaging sonar for Explosive Ordnance Disposal and
Naval Special Warfare requirements; (2) UUV mounted imaging sonar for
detection, classification and identification tasks in mine
countermeasures; and (3) torpedo guidance imaging sonar for shallow
water environments. While this program concentrates on transducer
materials and device issues, the program will be defined in conjunction
with systems applications specialists from the three technical areas
noted, in order to insure the rapid application of technology
innovations in Navy systems. Innovative materials and device research
that holds the promise of substantial improvements in undersea
ultrasonic imaging transducers should be summarized in a three to five
page concept paper that describes the transducer science research and
technology development proposed, as well as its expected impact in the
three target applications arenas. Along with a rough order of magnitude
of the proposed program's costs, these concept papers should be
submitted to: Dr. Wallace Arden Smith, Office of Naval Research,
Materials Division, ONR 332, 800 North Quincy Street, Arlington, VA
22217-5660, phone: (703) 696-0284. Fax: (703) 696-0934, email:
smithw@onrhq.onr.navy.mil. Responses to these initial inquiries will be
made on a continuous basis and projects will similarly begin
continuously as meritorious research and development efforts are
delineated. Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0467 19960304\SP-0004.MSC)
