52 -- RESONANT ULTRASOUND SPECTROMETER WITH LOW-TEMPERATURE SYSTEM SOL 52RANB60C020 DUE 021396 POC Doug Hargrove (303) 497-3513 The National Institute of Science and Technology intends to purchase a resonant ultrasound spectrometer (RUS) custom configured as follows: One-packaged system that can produce correct results immediately after delivery. Minimum specifications are: 1. ANALYSIS: a. Find all the resonant frequencies in few seconds between the frequency ranges. b. Find all internal frictions associated with the resonant frequencies. d. Calculate the elastic constants from the resonant frequencies: isotropic, cubic, hexagonal, tetragonal, and orthorhombic symmetry. 2. ANALYZABLE SPECIMEN SHAPES: cylinder, parallelepiped, cube, sphere. 3. X-Y-Z MICROMETER STAGE FOR SMALL SPECIMEN: a. accommodate 0.2 to 17 mm specimen sizes. b. one lithium niobate transmitting transducer with diamond cylinder (back load). c. one lithium niobate receiving transducer with diamond cylinder (back load). 4. CRYOSTAT: a. Vacuum flask container with a small stage, liquid helium dewar with piping and valves (Los Alamos National LLaboratory: Migliori design). b. Transmitting and receiving wide band transducers (standard parallelogram 2-transducer-micrometer stage) that can withstand 4 K. c. controlled by the computer (item no.7). d. temperature range 4K - 300 K. e. accommodate 0.2-17 mm body diagonal) specimen sizes. f. temperature sensor- 0.1 K accuracy in the temperature range. 5. TEST NEST STAGE FOR LARGE SPECIMEN (ADJUSTABLE): accommodate 0.6 to 100 cm specimen sizes: a. one PZT transmitting transducer with alumina tip. b. two PZT- dual receiving transducers with alumina tip. c. one dummy supporting tip. 6. TOTAL COMPUTER CONTROL: a. AT-Bus controlled frequency synthesizer; frequency of 0.0058 Hz (or 0.01 %) resolution and 25 MHz clock speed; 10 Hz - 4 MHz range; 1mV - 20 V output variable. b. A/D converter; 16 bits or higher; 50000 samples per second. c. Dual heterodyne receiver; S/N 100 dB or better. d. Minimum of 1000 samples per second capacity. 7. IBM COMPATIBLE PC-COMPUTER: a. cpu - 486/66 DX with math-coprocessor or faster computer. b. built-in hard drive (500 Mb or greater). c. standard rack mount. 8. User documentation (operations and maintenance manual). 9. Delivery within 30 days of order receipt (60 days for cryostat). 10. One year warranty. 11. Training at the company (2 days).
