(NIAID), Division of Intramural Reaearch (DIR), conducts clinical
reaearch programs on patient care units in the Clinical Center, NIH,
and requires medical services on a daily basis for these patients. The
Division of Intramural Research, NIAID, has determined that Medical
Residents in the PGY2 OR PGY3 years are well suited to providing
primary care for our clinical research patients. Formerly, NIAID
patients were cared for by fellows in our subspecialty programs in
Allergy/Immunology and Infectious Diseases; this included on call
service at night. Independently and not as an agent of the Government,
the contractor shall be required to furnish all the necessary
services, qualified personnel, material, equipment and facilities, not
otherwise provided by the Government. These individuals shall provide
advanced medical services on the patient care units or NIAID-DIR at
the Clinical Center, Bethesda, Maryland. These residents need not be
the same individuals during the entire year, but may be changed as
frequently as once a month. These residents shall perform the initial
workup of each patient, including medical history and physical
examination, write appropriate orders in the Medical Information System
(mis) computer, including implementaiton of protocol order sets, attend
''morning report'' meetings on selected weekdays with the Clinical
Director, present all patients to and receive instructions from the
attending physicians or his designee, make rounds daily and provide all
primary physician care required by the patients under their care on the
clinical services to which they are assigned, provide medical care at
nights and on weekends and holidays according to specific assignments
and according to policies set by NIAID on a rotational basis in

include enough material, insuffient detail, to perform a proper
