A -- MONINVASIVE ELEMENTAL ASSAY SYSTEMS Contact Mr. Robert J. Gehrke. Lockheed Martin Idaho Technologies (LMIT), P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-2114; a management and operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory (INEL). The Department of Energy Mixed Waste Focus Area (MWFA) desires a resource list of interested firms capable of noninvasive elemental assay for identification and measurement of RCRA metals in 55-gal drums of mixed waste presently in storage at the INEL. LMIT intends to evaluate the status of the technology available commercially or to be developed within an eighteen month period. Interested firms with noninvasive elemental assay systems, that could be used or modified for the identification of RCRA metals (initially Cr, Ni, As, Cd, Hg, and Pb) in 55-gal waste drums, are asked to submit a qualification statement and a contact name and address to Robert J. Gehrke, LMIT, P.O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-2114, (telephone: (208)526-4155). In order to validate the qualifications and detection capabilities, a set of surrogate waste matrices in 55-gal or possibly smaller drums and containing one or more of the above RCRA metals in concentrations not provided to the participant will be sent to participants to identify and quantify. A blank surrogate of each waste type will also be provided to each participant. Concentration levels will lie between 300 ppm and 20,000 ppm. Responses are due in three weeks from the date of publication of this notice. This request for expressions of interest is not associated with a specific subcontracting opportunity, and LMIT does not anticipate reimbursement for assaying of surrogate waste samples. (008)
