21702-5014 A -- TREATMENT FOR SKIN INJURY ASSOCIATED WITH EPIDERMOLYSIS BULLOSA
(EB) SOL CBD&&&-9512-0003 POC Craig D. Lebo, (301) 619-2036 (Site Code
DAMD17) The U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command is
currently soliciting proposals for the design and execution of studies
to elucidate the mechanism and possible treatment for skin injury
associated with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a group of genetically
transmitted diseases of the skin marked by the development of bullae
and vesicles. Subepidermal blisters are observed in some forms of EB
similar to sulfur mustard (HD)- induced vesication, and although the
pathologic findings suggest some marked differences in the
pathophysiology of the blisters produced, there may be some similar
basement membrane components affected by HD as are deficient or absent
in some forms of EB. Studies further elucidating the mechanisms of
vesicle and bullae formation, as well as studies addressing novel
treatment methodologies, and their relevance to other types of blister
injury, are requested. Proposal guidelines are contained in the U.S.
