COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF DECEMBER 13,1995 PSA#1489Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Procurement Department, L-443,
P. O. Box 5012, Livermore, CA 94551 59 -- PULSED POWER BALLAST INDUCTOR ASSEMBLIES POC Margaret Cooke,
Senior Subcontract Administrator (510) 423-2178 The University of
California Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), in
collaboration with Sandia National Laboratory, Albuquerque (SNLA) and
as representatives of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) Project, a
multi-laboratory effort of the Department Of Energy (DOE), is seeking
manufacturing sources for pulsed power ballast inductor assemblies for
flashlamps used in large amplifiers for fusion lasers. Twenty of these
inductors are to be arranged in a junction box that distributes 500 kA
of input current to 20 series-pairs of flashlamps operating in
parallel. The junction boxes approximate physical dimensions are: 91cm
(36'') long x 91cm (36'') wide x 61cm (24''). The Total Inductance of
each installed inductor in the assembly must be 30 microhenries +/-
5%. The Nominal Operating Voltage shall be 24 kV. The Peak Output
Voltage (ring-up) shall be 50 kV. The Normal Operating Current shall be
26 kA, 1/2 sine discharge, less than 10% reversal. The Fault Operating
Current shall be 100 kA, ringing discharge, 60% reversal on first
cycle. The Output Pulse Width is 360 microseconds. The Resistance must
be 20 milliohms at 1.4 kHz +/- 10%. The Operating Life must be at
least 20,000 shots normal operation plus 25 shots fault mode operation.
Required Operating Repetition Rate: One shot per 15 minutes; Desired
Repetition Rate, 1 shot per minute. Approximately 200 of these
assemblies, plus spares, are required for NIF. Interested firms must
respond with a written statement of capabilities, available resources,
and qualifications. Respondents must also include information which
documents past capability to manufacture similar capacitors of this
type and size. Test data on such units must be provided to LLNL upon
request. Responses which include the required information must be
received by LLNL on or before January 10, 1996. Firms responding to
this announcement that fail to provide all the required documentation
will not be solicited for a proposal. Facsimile and telephone responses
will not be accepted. The small business size standard applicable to
the proposed acquisition is SIC 3629, or 500 employees. Firms
qualifying as a small business with respect o this standard should so
state. This notice is to assist the University in determining the
potential for competition; no solicitation is currently available, nor
is funding currently allocated for this requirement. This synopsis
will be used only as part of the market survey process. Again, no
solicitation is currently available, and there is no currently planned
release date for one should one be developed. (0345) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0251 19951212\59-0019.SOL)
