Sensors and Systems Development. UDLP, ASD the prime contractor to the
US Army on the Crusader Howitzer program (Prime Contract
DAAE30-95-C0009) wishes to identify organizations that possess the
capabilities to develop position, navigation, orientation, and terrain
profiling hardware for the Crusader Howitzer. Vehicle position,
navigation, terrain profiling, and armament orientation hardware will
be integrated into larger Command-Control-Communications and Armament
Control Elements of the Crusader Howitzer. Crusader requires equipments
capable of providing vehicles with global self locating and orienting
capabilities, including location, orientation, and terrain profiles for
aiming vehicle armaments. In addition, equipments to determine and
provide vehicle location and orientation using a fully capable vehicle
to assist another vehicle that has lost its primary self locating and
orienting capability, including location and orientation of the
degraded vehicle's armament, with vehicles separated by up to 1 km.
UDLP, ASD will issue a request for information to selected
organizations in mid December allowing those organizations to address
the specific Position, Navigation, and Orientation needs and
requirements of Crusader in greater detail. Potential qualified
subcontractors/suppliers are requested to submit capability statements
pertaining to the needs identified above. The capability statement (in
subcontractor format) should address the organization's unique
technical capabilities, background or relevant past experience,
facilities capabilities, and personnel expertise associated with
similar hardware or systems, especially that related to
cannon/artillery. Submission must be received by UDLP, ASD no later
than 14 days after the publication date of this notice and should be
submitted via US Mail (or express mail) to United Defense LP, Armament
Systems Division, 4800 E. River Rd., Minneapolis, MN 55421-1498,
Attention: KL Pahl, M385. Information may be submitted via facsimile
(612/572-4954). Previous capabilities statements provided to UDLP, ASD
will also be used to identify qualified organizations. Subcontractors
whose capability statements are judged to be relevant to Crusader
Vehicle objectives will be provided an opportunity to compete for
resulting subcontracts. United Defense LP, ASD reserves the right to
make Small or Small Disadvantaged Business set-asides as appropriate.
The cost of preparing capability statements or requested information
will not be entertained as allowable direct charges to any resulting
