Number R255-95. The U.S. Army Missile Command, Research, Development
and Engineering Center has a requirement for a bulk liquid nitrogen
storage tank. The storage tank shall have a capacity of 12,500 to
14,000 gallons. The storage tank shall be vertical and consist of an
inner pressure vessel and an outer insulating vessel. The inner
pressure vessel shall be manufactured in accordance with the latest
edition of the US ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII,
Division 1 using 9 percent nickel steel. The outer insulating vessel
shall be made from carbon steel and shall be protected from outdoor
exposure to prevent corrosion. The overall construction shall be
designed for seismic Zone 4 installations. The tank shall be designed
for attachment to a concrete foundation at three or more locations. The
overall outer diameter shall not exceed twelve feet. The overall height
shall not exceed thirty-seven feet. The pressure vessel and plumbing
shall be capable of a working pressure of 250 PSI or greater. The
relief valves shall be configured for a working pressure of 50 PSI.
