Tech of the University of Montana has available a Request for Proposal
(RFP) for the bench scale demonstration of innovative remediation
technologies for treating contaminated water existing in the Berkley
Pit located at Butte, Montana. The Berkeley Pit is an inactive open-pit
copper mine that currently contains approximately 25 billion gallons of
heavy metal-laden, acidic mine water. The Berkeley Pit Innovative
Technologies (BPIT) Program, implemented by MSE-TA, Inc. and
administered by the Mine Waste Technology Program (MWTP) at Montana
Tech, was initiated to provide a channel for existing acid mine water
remediation technologies to be demonstrated on Berkeley Pit water in
bench scale laboratory tests. Bench scale demonstration tests can be
done at the Montana Tech campus using Montana Tech facilities or at the
subcontractor's facility. A report summarizing the process and results
of each bench scale demonstration will be sent to the EPA Region 8
Field Office, the EPA Risk Reduction Engineering Laboratory,
Cincinnati, Ohio, and the Department of Energy (DOE) Resource Recovery
Project, also administered by MSE-TA, Inc. Bids are not to exceed
$25,000.00. Successful bidders will be awarded fixed price
subcontracts. Further details, proposal format, and evaluation criteria
are detailed in the RFP. This RFP is open to all technologies and
business concerns. No phone calls requesting the RFP will be accepted.
