NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center intends to issue RFQ5-65441/997, on a sole source basis to Rodriguez Precision Optics, 3213 Hickory Ave., Harahan, LA 70123, for the acquisition of Quartz Cones. Rodriguez Precision Optics was chosen for this requirement for their unique capability and expertise. Rodriguez is the only company that can provide Quartz Cones to meet the critical specifications involved with the shape and suface quality. The acquisition is for 10 Quartz Cones ranging from 5.719''/5.582'' to 12.445''/12.346'' with Height 6'', and Wall Thickness about 3/4''. The outer surfaces need to be figured flat to 5 fringes over 6'' length and must be polished to 60/40. Also a 1/4'' diameter hole through the wall of the finished cone at the position centered on the axial direction (i.e. 3'' from either end) is required. All responsible sources may respond by submitting a technical narrative statement of their capability, including detailed technical information and other technical literature, demonstrating their ability to meet the above requirements within 15 days of the publication of this notice to the above address.
