and to the List of Toxic Substances (Schedule I) (pages 3463-3467). 6.
Description of content: The Prohibition of Certain Toxic Substances
Regulations, proposed pursuant to subsection 34(1) of CEPA, prohibit
the manufacturing, use, processing, offer for sale and importation into
Canada of certain toxic substances in Schedule I of CEPA. The proposed
regulations will replace the existing regulations for mirex
(dodecachloropentacyclo decane), polychlorinated terphenyls and
polybrominated biphenyls (the current regulations will be revoked).
These substances will then be added to Schedule I of the proposed
regulations. Two additional substances, bis(chloromethyl) ether and
chloromethyl methyl ether will also be added to Schedule I of the
proposed regulations. These substances have been determined to the
toxic but are not present in Canadian commerce. They are being banned
from Canadian commerce as a preventative measure. 7. Objective and
