Contact, S. S. McNeely, 423/576-1468 / R. G. Neal, 423/576-1476 The
U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), through its contractor Lockheed Martin
Energy Systems Inc. (LMES) invites expressions of interest in painting
heavily corroded carbon steel cylinders filled with depleted uranium
hexaflouride at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) in Paducah,
KY. These cylinders are 4 feet in diameter, 12 feet long, and weigh
approximately 14 tons. 1000 cylinders are to be painted between 1 May
and 31 October 1996, with a per unit option for an additional 500
within the time frame. The painting subcontractor is to clean the
outside surface of the cylinders with a pressure wash, prepare the
surface, apply an initial airless spray coat of penetrating epoxy, and
apply airless spray acrylic top coat. Movement of the cylinders to and
from the painting area will be the responsibility of LMES. The
cylinders are to be painted outdoors at PGDP on a large concrete area
at a maximum rate of 10 per day. Painting operations are to be
performed only during fair weather. Based on lessons learned from this
effort, additional contracts will be placed for the painting of the
remaining PGDP inventory, and the additional DOE cylinder inventories
at Portsmouth, Ohio and Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Documentation of vendor
qualifications should be submitted along with expressions of interest
to the address specified herein. The Technical Specification and
subsequent Request for Bids will be announced in January 1996. (0306) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0265 19951103\81-0002.SOL)
