2ND ANNUAL ADVANCED TECHNIQUES FOR REPLACING CHROMIUM: AN INFORMATION EXCHANGE Contact Teresa Reed Kishlock, 814/269-2800. Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC) is hosting the ``2nd Annual Advanced Techniques for Replacing Chromium: An Information Exchange'' at the Seven Springs Mountain Resort in Champion, PA, from November 7-8, 1995. This Information Exchange is sponsored by the National Defense Center for Environmental Excellence (NDCEE), operated by CTC for the Department of Defense (DOD). The NDCEE leads and supports DOD facilities and the associated industrial base in adopting a comprehensive approach to pollution prevention and addresses other high priority environmental issues. The Information Exchange will provide a forum for discussions of activities aimed at reducing hexavalent chromium in metal finishing. Representatives from industry, military, and regulatory agencies will describe their ongoing projects to eliminate the use of hexavalent chromium processes on a variety of parts. The problems encountered in finding and qualifying alternatives for chromium will also be discussed. Suppliers with off-the-shelf alternatives will have an opportunity to describe their products and present supporting data and application information. Through data sharing, the informal discussions will held attendees learn more about current happenings in the industry, in a workshop environment. Participants will gain information to help them prevent duplication of effort, ultimately saving valuable time and money. Co-sponsoring this Information Exchange are the Department of Defense (DOD), American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society, Inc. (AESF), Basic Industrial Research Laboratory (BIRL), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Society for Vacuum Coaters (SVC). Abstracts summarizing activities regarding chromium alternatives are being accepted for presentations. Also, a limited number of spaces are available for organizations wishing to display their products and services regarding chromium alternatives. Following this Information Exchange on November 9, 1995, CTC will be coating sample parts with a variety of chromium alternatives at CTC's Demonstration Factory in Johnstown, PA. Attendees are welcomed to view these demonstrations and/or to supply CTC with parts or samples to be coated during these demonstrations. Please note: attendance to the Demonstration Factory is limited to US Citizens unless the proper written authorization is provided.
