COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 25,1995 PSA#1459MSE Technology Applications Inc., Western Environmental Technology
Office, P.O. Box 3767, Butte, MT 59702 C -- REQUEST FOR INFORMATION, IN SITU SUBSURFACE BARRIERS SOL A59761.
Contact Point: Michael Rubich, 406-494-7433 or 406-723-8213. MSE, Inc.
under Prime Contract No. DE-AC22-881D17235 with the U.S. Department of
Energy (DOE) operates the Western Environmental Technology Office
(WETO) in Butte, Montana. In situ subsurface barriers represent a
promising remedial option to the DOE waste management community, the
Environmental Protection Agency, and the private sector. The DOE is
interested in surveying the present market to determine the types of
subsurface barrier systems, methodologies, or technologies that are
currently available, and the experience of designers, vendors, and
contractors with use of these systems for in situ waste containment.
Barrier systems are considered to be either vertical barrier walls or
horizontal floors or combinations of the two. Along with identifying
the available methods for in situ waste containment, DOE is interested
in obtaining specific information regarding each system. The requested
information includes: the state of development of the method or
technology; previous applications of the system for waste containment;
performance data for the barrier system; the anticipated life
expectancy of the system; the characteristics of the barrier system;
the limitations of the system in regards to site requirements, waste
compatibility, and other potential limitations; permeability of the
system, and costs of installation and ongoing maintenance. The DOE is
also interested in identifying system designers and installers. This
RFI is also request for a summary of qualifications and experience in
the design and installation of in situ subsurface barriers for waste
containment from the engineering community, the construction community;
and technology vendors. Information obtained from this request will be
consolidated into an information base and provided to potential users
within the DOE. (296) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0029 19951024\C-0009.SOL)
