69 -- SIMULATED AREA WEAPONS EFFECTS/MULTIPLE INTEGRATED LASER ENGAGEMENT SYSTEM II POC Barbara Ladd, Contracting Officer, (407) 380-4099 The U.S. Army Simulation Training and Instrumentation Command, intends to award a sole-source modification to the N61339-89-C-0098, Simulated Area Weapons Effects/Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System II (SAWE/MILES II) contract to procure three SAWE/MILES II repeaters and three towers (installation and integration). This hardware will be used to demonstrate an instrumentation system, code named Emerald Light, at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC), Twentynine Palms, California. Emerald Light will be modeled after similar instrumentation systems used by the U.S. Army at its combat training centers and tailored to the needs of the Marine Corps. This announcement notifies contractors of the SAWE/MILES II system requirements. The Emerald Light demonstration will employ three SAWE repeater stations and three towers to connect Player Detection devices (PDD) and Vehicle Detection devices (VDD) to a Marine Corps operations center. The period of performance for the demonstration support effort is eight (8) months, during which time the Marine Corps will conduct the demonstration in September 1996. The effective period of performance will allow time for coordination, installation and verification before the experiment. LORAL Systems Company, 1210 Massillon Road, Akron, OH, 44305-0001, is the only source for the SAWE repeaters and accompanying towers capable of providing the Emerald Light Demonstration. The Government does not have the descriptive documentation to convey the engineering performance characteristics or physical configuration of the SAWE/MILES II systems. No technical data/drawings are available. Loral Systems Company as the designer, developer and manufacturer of the Sawe system is the only source which possesses the necessary data, current design, production facilities, and expertise to deliver the required devices. Authority and Justification is Federal Acquisition and Regulation (FAR) 6.302-1, only one responsible source. Written respondents to this notice are to be submitted, within 15 days after publication in the CBD, containing a detailed statement of capability. (0292)
