in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 95.294. 1. Member to
Agreement notifying: CANADA. If applicable, name of local government
involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2): 2. Agency responsible: Department of
Transport. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or
CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers
may be provided in addition, where applicable): Lighting systems and
retroreflective devices. 5. Title and number of pages of the notified
document: Proposed Amendment to the Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations
(pages 3200-3226). 6. Description of content: This amendment to the
Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations replaces Canada Motor Vehicle Safety
Standard (CMVSS) 108 Lighting Equipment, and introduces a new safety
standard, CMVSS 131 School Bus Pedestrian Safety Devices. Technical
Standards Documents (TSDs) are adopted by reference to facilitate
harmonization with United States regulations and to improve regulatory
efficiency and responsiveness. Changes resulting from the TSD
regulatory approach and others of a minor technical nature are made to
CMVSS 108.1 Headlamps, CMVSS 123 Controls and displays - Motorcycles,
and CMVSS 1201 Snowmobile standards. The purpose of this amendment is
to reduce the frequency and severity of motor vehicle collisions, and
to improve the responsiveness and reduce the costs of the regulatory
