REPUBLIC OF KOREA: FOOD LABELING The following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 95.291. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: REPUBLIC OF KOREA. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable): Food, food additives, food apparatus, packaging and containers. 5. Title and number of pages of the notified document: Establishment of Labelling Requirements for Foods, etc. 6. Description of content: Unifies the labelling standards held under the Ministerial Ordinance of the Food Sanitation Act and the Food Code into the ``Labelling Requirements for Foods, etc.''; reduces the number of items subject to mandatory labelling requirement from 15 to 9; adjusts the requirements for label position; alleviates the requirements for letter size on labels; clarifies the labelling requirements for nutrients. 7. Objective and rationale: To facilitate consumers understanding and manufacturers convenience through a unified and simplified labelling requirement system. 8. Relevant documents: Government Notice 1995-71 (19 August 1995). 9. Proposed date of adoption and entry into force: 1 January 1996. However, for two years following the entry into force of the new regulation the previous regulations may be applied to manufacturers who secured a business licence or registered their business prior to 1 January 1996. 10.
