services for Project No. 534-96-102, Sprinkler 2000, Phase II, for the
Ralph H. Johnson Dept. of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Charleston,
SC. The Sprinkler 2000, Phase II project consists of finishing the
total sprinkling system of the building. Areas include but not
necessarily all inclusive, sprinkling areas of the First & Second
Floors of the Medical Center, replacing 5 each ''House'' pumps, &
installation of controls on the back-up booster pump.
Updating/replacing the fire alarm system of the First & Second Floors
will also be required. A complete design & specifications for sprinking
the entire Medical Center is available. The risers, basement control
valves, basement piping, basement fire alarm system & Third through
Fifth Floors are being installed in Phase I currently under
construction. Only minor adjustments to existing complete design &
specs are expected or revising the construction documents for just the
above mentioned Phase II areas. Disciplines involved, may include, but
are not limited to: architectural, electrical, and mechanical. All
professional services shall be part of the design team announced in the
SF 254 & 255's. Estimated construction cost: $491,677. Specific
evaluation factors, not in priority order are: (1) Professional
qualifications necessary for the satisfactory performance of the
required services, including consultants; (2) Specialized experience &
technical competence by all members of the team in the type of work
required, with examples of similar type project designs; (3) Capacity
to accomplish the work in the time required and funding limits; (4)
Past performance on contracts with Government agencies & private
industry in terms of cost control, quality of work & compliance with
performance schedules; (5) Location of principle firm within a 100 mile
geographical radius of the Charleston, SC, area; (6) Prior experience
in the design of alteration, maintenance and repair projects,
development of conceptual designs, & preparation f working drawings &
specifications with cost estimates;(7) Computer Assisted Drafting
(ACADR12) capabilities. A/E firms are required to respond in writing if
interested & shall submit a completed SF 254 & SF 255. SF 254's are NOT
kept on file at this VAMC. Firms responding to this announcement by
Close of business, 4:30 PM, (Local Charleston, SC, time), Nov. 15,
1995, will be considered. Firms selected for interview will be
requested to present their approach for this project & demonstrate
their experience. This is not a request for proposal. Contract award is
