COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF OCTOBER 12,1995 PSA#1450APPLICATION PROGRAM INTERFACE STANDARDS FOR IMAGERY SYSTEMS WITHIN THE
INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY AND THE DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE Contact Mr. Ron
Burns. The Department of Defense, Central Imagery Office (CIO), will be
developing and approving standards related to Application Program
Interfaces (API's). Systems that process, disseminate, catalog,
request, and exploit images within the United States Imagery System
(USIS) will meet these API's at some point in the next six years. These
API's will be specified in Interface Definition Language and included
in the standards documents related to the USIS. As a first step toward
a set of comprehensive interface specifications, the CIO will lead an
effort to define the framework for the API development. The existing
Image Access Working Group, dedicated to the development of interfaces
for the storage and retrieval of images, will expand the scope of its
mission and its membership. On 25 October 1995 the CIO will host the
first meeting of this expanded group, the Common Imagery
Interoperability Working Group. This working group will manage the
technical development of the API specifications for the USIS. The
integration of commercial and government software products into
government developed systems will be a particular focus of this group.
Anyone interested is encouraged to attend the meeting, starting at
8:30 AM in Reston, Virginia. Please contact Mr. Ron Burns, in the
Standards Branch of the CIO, at 703-275-5649, for more information on
participating in the working group and attending the October meeting.
