Information Services under NASA Contract No. NASW 4962 is currently
seeking vendors who can provide off-the-shelf software capabilities for
a Work Control System. This software must handle a wide variety of work
requests related to information technology support. It must support
work requests in a comprehensive ADP/T environment to include both help
desk functions for resolution of problems with existing
products/services, and requests to provide new products/services to
customers. Workflow capabilities for electronic routing and
authorization are highly desirable. The software must support
receiving, tracking, managing, reporting, metrics, etc. Work requests
range from simple questions to highly complex implementations involving
several organizations. Examples of work requests are: install and
configure hardware/software for a PC workstation; evaluate, select, and
implement a new electronic mail system; respond to an alarm from the
network management system; correct an application software problem;
develop a new release of an application; answer a question about the
Internet; upgrade workstaton software (to include purchase if
required); activate user accounts/reset password; manage laptop loaner
program; relocate telecomm equipment or ADP hardware. The RFI package
includes a draft Requirements Document, draft ``technical
evaluation/selection criteria,'' and draft ``instructions to offerors
for technical proposal.''The draft Requirements Document identifies a
minimum set of mandatory requirements. Many of these are related to the
information technology environment that the Work Control system must
operate within. The Requirements Document also includes more detailed
functional/design requirements, and indicates the importance of each
requirement by weighting. The mandatory requirements are summarized as:
(1) Graphical User Interface; (2) user-created ad hoc queries/reports;
(3) levels of access/privileges by user ID; (4) SQL database; (5)
database readily configurable and expandable by Boeing; (6)
client-server architecture; (7) separation of database from processing
modules; (8) tools for Boeing to customize system; (9) support for
cross-platform clients: Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Macintosh 7.5; (10)
server component supports Novell, Windows NT, or UNIX; (11) protocol
for all clients TCP/IP; (12) Windows client compatible with
Winsock/Chameleon and Microsoft 32-bit TCP/IP stack; (13) Mac client
compatible with MacTCP. All interested parties are asked to send
capability statements to: Boeing Information Services, Attn: R. W. Ord,
