The DTPS is a prepress system that will use digital information to drive a laser to expose printing plates. The DTPS will be capable of high throughput for plate production to support DMA's 40'' printing press. Besides the Imagesetter, the DTPS will include: digital direct color proofing capability, a plate processor, file server, edit workstations, laser printer, 8mm tape drive, and a mass storage device for digital data. An automated system, which minimizes the amount of operator intervention and material handling will be required. All components of the DTPS will be networked together. The DTPS will be composed of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and software to meet all functional and performance requirements. Some system integration may be required. Included as options will be the purchase of a second system with a larger format system for printing plates up to 63'', and the movement of the first system to the Consolidated Printing and Distribution Facility (both in the St. Louis area) with connection to the second system network, and demonstrating the system functionality that allows access to all components.
