The US Postal Service anticipates the need for expending its Postal Routed Network (PRN) to over 6000 additional locations. The PRN is a TCP/IP based wide area network currently reaching over 450 locations and based on Bay Networks' Wellfleet router line. The PRN is designed with OSPF as the routing protocol. The topological design of the PRN is hierarchical with three tiers. Tier 1 is comprised of a meshed frame relay backbone interconnecting 15 locations. Tier 2 currently consists of approximately 100 locations with connectivity up to the Tier 1 backbond sites, and Tier 3 has over 350 locations with connectivity up to the Tier 2 sites. Postal is currently modifying the PRN to replace the point-to-point synchronous links between Tier 1 and Tier 2 with several frame relay clouds. Future plans entail frame relay between Tier 2 and Tier 3 as well. The US Postal Service is seeking sources from industry with the capabilities for providing and implementing Wellfleet routers and providing ongoing network operations support of the PRN with over 6000 routers. Interested vendors must submit a corporate capability statement in addition to a listing of experience and current capabilities for such an endeavor. Information regarding proven experience should be provided in a written, succinct manner, include past and current contract arrangements, network size/description, performance obligations, dollar value of award, if appropriate, term of contract, etc. All information must be received by close of business September 29, 1995. Acknowledgement of capability statements will not be provided. The US Postal Service will not pay for capability statements.
