COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 12,1995 PSA#1429Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, 7000 East Avenue, Livermore, CA
94550 A -- LLNL SEEKS PARTNERS TO CO-FUND PATENTED ZINC-AIR REFUELABLE
BATTERY AND ELECTROMECHANICAL BATTERY TECHNOLOGIES FOR ALL-ELECTRIC
ZERO EMISSION VEHICLE APPLICATIONS. Announcement Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory (LLNL), operated by the University of California
under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy, is seeking partners
to co-fund final-stage development and demonstration of the patented
zinc-air refuelable battery (ZARB) and electromechanical battery (EMB)
technologies for mobile applications. In exchange for funding, these
LLNL technologies can be made available to qualified entities through
a number of business mechanisms. LLNL is seeking to integrate the ZARB
and EMB technologies where appropriate into all-electric zero
emissions vehicles: for example, passenger cars, trucks and minivans;
transit buses; delivery vehicles; and off-road vehicles. ZARB
technology includes not only the battery, but also a ZARB refueling
unit that permits rapid refueling and extended range. This refueling
unit is to be located at vehicle fleet home bases, and eventually
service stations and home garages. Specifically. LLNL is interested in
extending past research and development phase to commercialization of
the zinc-air refuelable battery technology including a zinc-air
refueling unit, and the electromechanical battery for a large variety
of applications. Our current plan is to have an October 12, 1995
Industry Day. The initial portion of the day will focus on ZARB and EMB
technology presentations and the other portion on private business
discussions on individual bases. If you are interested in attending,
since space is limited and to assist in planning, please provide the
following information by Sept. 29, 1995: 1) field-of-use interest, 2)
potential financial commitment, 3) capability to utilize the
technologies, and 4) history and background. Interested companies and
financial groups should have a substantial and successful record of
work in one or more of the following areas: vehicle manufacturing or
assembling (including passenger, utility, transit & delivery vehicles),
battery manufacturing, or be end-users of any of the above energy
technologies. Please send this information and any questions you may
have to LLNL; Energy, Manufacturing & Transportation Technologies
