COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF SEPTEMBER 6,1995 PSA#1425Commander, U. S. Army Engineer Waterways Experiment Station, ATTN:
CEWES-CT-C, 3909 Halls Ferry Rd., Vicksburg, MS 39180- 6199 Y -- CONSTRUCTION OF A 32,500 SQUARE FOOT ADDITION TO THE INFORMATION
TECHNOLOGY LABORATORY BUILDING AT THE WATERWAYS EXPERIMENT STATION SOL
DACW39-95-B-0019 DUE 102495 POC Randy Brown, 601-634-4119 The subject
building is an addition to the existing Jamie Whitten building housing
the Information Technology Laboratory. The construction is designed to
match the architecture of the existing building and provide space for
information systems laboratories for research and development (R&D)
purposes and offices for the engineers and scientists employed in the
R&D activity. The structure may be described as slab on grade
foundation with basement mechanical room, steel frame post and beam
structure with brick exterior. Roofing consists of both single ply
membrane and standing seam metal. Interior walls are gypsum board over
metal studs. Suspended ceilings throughout and raised computer floor
in laboratory areas. The project requires installation of a fire
suppression and detection system, a state of the art access
control/security system with card readers and detection, information
systems consisting of raceways through out the building with provisions
for ethernet, fiber and copper communications media. The building HVAC
is supplied through a chilled water/VAV system with the condensing
unit located in the basement and air handlers roof mounted. Air supply
is ducted overhead. Requirements for stand alone space conditioning
systems with humidity control are isolated to one laboratory area. Site
work includes relocation of three chilled water condensing units and
concrete foundation presently located within the footprint of the
required building addition. The chillers serve critical high
performance computing systems for which down time must be limited and
for which coordination is essential. Site work in addition to
relocation of chillers includes a minimum amount of clearing and
grubbing to expand the construction site formerly improved as part of
the existing structure. Utility relocations include sanitary sewer,
with new lift station and storm sewers. Road construction is required
for access to basement area and to provide replacement parking spaces.
Landscaping and irrigation systems are also required. This project is
located at Waterways Eperiment Station, Vicksburg, MS. The estimated
cost of construction is between $1,000,000.00 and $5,000,000.00.
Solicitation No. DACW39-95-B-0019 opening on or about October 24, 1995.
