The Symposium will be held in Santa Barbara, CA on 6-7 February 1996. The primary objective of the Symposium is to provide a platform for the aggressive transfer of security seal and TID technology between Government and Industry that will lead to more knowledgeable, cost-effective applications of security seals and TID's. Mr. Michael Toscano, Chairman of the DoD Joint Requirements Working Group for Physical Security Equipment has been invited, and is expected, to be our Keynote Speaker for the Symposium. Principle investigators from the DoD Lock Program Technical Office will present the results of their recent physical survey of DoD security seal end-users and will discuss where security seals and TID's can or should be used to improve high-value item security, substance control, and asset protection. Other topics will include; development of training requirements for the inspection and control of security seals, criteria discussions leading to standards and testing procedures, discussion of present industry and Government ``Standards and specifications'', forth-coming lead-wire seal environmental issues, advantages and disadvantages of reusable security seals, and manufacturer's presentations of new technology. Information from the Symposium will be instrumental in: Developing seal performance criteria and testing standards; providing a basis for establishing a DoD Security Seal and TID Test Program; developing selection, application, and identification criteria for end-users; and providing guidance for the development of seal/device control plans and programs. Information developed during the Symposium will also lead to an ongoing major revision of Federal Specification FF-S-2738, ``Seals, Anti-Pilferage.'' Application areas of interest are: Transportation and container security, static storage applications; weapons, ammunition, and explosive storage and accountability; medical material and pharmaceutical control; nuclear materials storage; information and document security; fuel storage; and material/package security/inventory control and accountability. A final technical report will be provided to attendees approximately 60-90 days following the Symposium. Users, testing organizations, and manufacturers are invited and encouraged to make technical presentations at the Symposium.
