Dahlgren Division, Coastal Systems Station is seeking potential sources
for a fire fighters breathing apparatus (FFBA) to replace the Oxygen
Breathing Apparatus (OBA) currently in use aboard US Naval vessels. The
Navy is seeking potential sources of commercially proven
non-developmental items and contemplates a competitve procurement for
such devices in the future. The proposed FFBA should provide safe
respiratory protection for Navy fire fighters and during shipboard use
in high temperature and toxic environments that are of immediate
danger to life or health (IDLH). The intended use of the FFBA will
expose it to high radiant heat and direct flame impingement. The FFBA
should be National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH)
certified for ''entry into'' and ''escape'' and should have a rated
duration of at least 30 minutes. The information supplied should
include technical descriptions of any devices a potential offeror may
propose to meet this specific application (including known previous
field uses of the devices) and information on how the proposed device
would meet the previously mentioned requirements. This is not a Request
for Proposal (RFP) or Request for Quotation (RFQ) and is not to be
construed as a commitment by the Government to issue a solicitation or
ultimately award a contract. This is a sources sought announcement
only. A solicitation will not be issued as a result of this
announcement. A new CBD announcement will be published if a
