V -- TEXTILE PICKUP AND DELIVERY SERVICE SOL IFB 645-01-96 DUE 082995 POC Contact Point, Linda White, (412)365-5436, Contracting Officer, Linda White, (412)365-5436, Additional Contact, Leroy Myers, (412)365-5981 The Government wishes to obtain delivery services to transport clean textiles from the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 7180 Highland Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15206, to the James E. Van Zandt Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 2907 Pleasant Valley Blvd., Altoona, PA 16602, and the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, 1111 East End Blvd., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711, and return soiled textiles for laundry three (3) times per week for the period October 1, 1995, through September 30, 1996. This contract contains options for two (2) one-year renewals. The contractor will be responsible to deliver and exchange approximately 2,500 pounds of clean linen to Altoona VA and approximately 7,500 pounds of clean linen to Wilkes-Barre VA, and return approximately 2,500 pounds of soiled linen from Altoona VA and approximately 7,500 pounds of soiled linen from Wilkes-Barre VA to Pittsburgh (Highland Drive) VA for processing. The distance between the Pittsburgh (Highland Drive) VA and Altoona VA is approximately ninety (90) miles each way, and the distance between the Pittsburgh (Highland Drive) VA and Wilkes-Barre VA is approximately three hundred (300) miles each way. The contractor must furnish a legally licensed semi truck driver competent in over the road driving and maneuvering of tractor trailer trucks. The contractor will be responsible for furnishing a tractor and two (2) covered trailers (45 foot length) suitable for textile deliveries. One trailer will be placed at Wilkes-Barre and exchanged upon each shipment or delivery of clean textiles. The driver will drop one trailer and hook up or exchange another trailer in accordance with our Medical Center requirements. The driver will not be responsible for tailgate deliveries at Wilkes-Barre VA, but will be responsible for placing the trailers at a loading dock in a safe and responsible manner. The trailers furnished must be capable of accommodating sanitizing procedures in accordance with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals. The trailers must be equipped with suitable straps to secure each load with a rollup door which can be locked. The semi tractor trailer truck and driver must meet all Federal, State and Local legal requirements. The contractor shall be totally responsible for each delivery from loading dock to loading dock. Altoona VA will require a tailgate delivery according to the contract delivery schedule. Estimated solicitation issue date is July 27, 1995.
