The Library of Congress Center for the Book intends to negotiate on a sole source basis with its partner, the Florida Center for the Book, Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the development of a Head Start/Center for the Book ''Alphabet'' project. In cooperation with the Library's Center for the Book, the Florida Center will investigate previous promotion projects that focused on the alphabet in all its aspects; develop a project outline for an ''alphabet'' project that would further the Center for the Book's outreach goals; plan and host a conference of approximately 20 individuals to discuss the project outline and prepare a report on the results of the conference; refine the outline and develop proposals for potential project funding, one for approaching corporations and foundations and one for submission to the National Endowment for the Humanities; make preliminary inquiries to potential recipients of the funding proposal and report on results and provide recommendations for future steps concerning the project.
