MSC 7510, Bethesda, Maryland 20892 A -- EVALUATION EFFECTIVENESS OF INTRAPARTUM ANTIBIOTIC AND
PROPHYLAXIS AGAINST EARLY-ONSET GROUP B STREPTOCOCCAL (GBS) DISEASE Sol
NICHD-DESPR-SS-00. Contact Mrs. Lynn Salo, 301-496-4611/Contract
Specialist, Harvey Shifrin, 301-496-4611/Contracting Officer. A study
sponsored by the National Institute of Child Health and Human
Development is planned to evaluate the effectiveness of intrapartum
antbiotic prophylaxis given to high risk women (selective antibiotic
prophylaxis) with the intent to prevent early-onset neonatal group B
streptococcal (GBS) disease. Selective antibiotic prophylaxis fails to
prevent 25% - 30% of cases of early-onset neonatal GBS disease. This
is being designed as a retrospective case-control analysis to measure
effectiveness of selective antibiotic prophylaxis. The results of this
analysis may provide additional evidence supporting the need for new
approaches for the prevention of neonatal GBS disease such as, active
immunization of women before or during pregnancy. The study data
currently being gathered by the seven sites on the prevelance of GBS
will be used to perform the proposed retrospective study. These study
sites include: Children's Hospital Medical Center of Northern
California, Magee-Womens Hospital, University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of
Florida, Gainesville, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Columbia
University and Baylor College of Medicine. We are planning to perform
and award this project to the above mentioned organizations. THe
purpose of this synopsis is to determine whether there are other
sources with the requisite qualifications to perform the work described
above. Capability statements should be submited with 45 days of the
publication of this synopsis to: Mr. Harvey Shifrin, Contracting
Officer, Contracts Management Branch, Executive Building, Rm. 7A07,
6100 Executive Blvd. MSC 7510, Bethesda, Maryland 20892. See Numbered
