COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF JUNE 22,1995 PSA#1373National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Contracts and
Procurement Management Branch, OM, 79 T.W. Alexander Drive, Building
4401, Research Commons, Research Triangle Park, NC 27709 A -- IDENTIFICATION OF CHROMOSOMAL BAND REGIONS IMPLICATED IN CLINICAL
OUTCOMES IN BREAST, MELANOMA AND OVARIAN CANCERS POC Contact Phillip D.
Jones, Contracting Officer, 919/541-0426 The National Center for Human
Genome Research intends to negotiate with theUniversity of Arizona for
an approximate two year period project. Evidence continues toaccumulate
that specific chromosomal abnormalities may be associated with poor
clinicaloutcomes, particularly in hematologic tumors. The purpose of
the project is to extend this lineof investigation to the significantly
more common and lethal solid tumors, including ovariancarcinoma,
melanoma, and breast carcinoma. The investigation of these three
distinct tumortypes will allow a determination of cytogenetic changes
important in the biology of the diseaseprocess. The database of
cytogenetic and clinical data collected at the Arizona GeneticOncology
Program is unique in the world and is the largest of its kind. Its
size together withthe careful clinical and pathological
characterization provides the only opportunity todistinguish the
non-random occurrence of cytogenetic abnormalities from a large subset
ofpatients with ovarian, breast cancer and melanoma. Authority: 41 USC
253(c)(1), as set forthin FAR 6.302-1. Restricted access to the data,
inherent duplication of cost to the Governmentand unacceptable delays
in completing the project make competition unfeasible. SeeNumbered Note
