58 -- UPGRADE OF DIGITAL INSTURMENT INC. LARGE SAMPLE STAGE SCANNING PROBE MICROSCOPE TO DIMENSION 5000 POC Mark A. Hobson, Contract Specialist, (617)377-2584, John Sorgini, Contracting Officer. Sources are sought for the following item: Scanning Probe Microscope (SPM) upgrade which is compatible to the existing Large Sample Stage (LSS) SPM made by Digital Instrument Inc. The compatible upgrade shall have full SPM capabilities which include contact, and noncontact atomic force microscopy (AFM), tapping mode AFM, magnetic force microscopy (MFM), electric force microscopy, lateral force, and modulation force, as well as scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). It shall also include all the additional hardware such as various tip holders required for different operation modes. The SPM scanner shall be able to provide X-Y imaging range of 90 micron x 90 micron, and a vertical range of 6 micron, with lateral accuracy within 2%. All scanned images shall have full 16-bit resolution. The detection method of the upgrade SPM shall use the beam deflection design in place of the current LSS interferometer detection design. The upgrade shall also provide an on-axis video optics to allow real-time viewing of tip during scanning. The video optics shall have the capability to magnify the sample surface from 410 to 1845 times and display image on the existing 12-inch monitor through motorized video zoom. An additional extender electronics module shall be included to enhance magnetic force and electric force imaging.
