99 -- ULTRA SMALL PERFORATIONS IN THIN METAL SHEETS POC NASA Langley Research Center, Industry Assistance Office, Mailstop 144, Hampton, VA 23681-0001. In order that potential sources may learn of the interest in a specific requirement, an advanced notice is published here. NASA Langley Research Center is seeking sources that have the capability to perforate thin metal sheets with large numbers of very small, precision holes. The required perforations shall be circular with a diameter in the range of 0.0002 - 0.002 inch. All holes of a given article shall be uniform with a hole-to-hole diameter variation of less than 10%. The metal sheet thickness shall be in the range of 0.004 - 0.04 inch. The ratio of sheet thickness to hole diameter shall typically be in the range of 10-20. The metal material has not yet been selected but the candidate materials are stainless steel, titanium or aluminum alloy. The hole diameter shall flare out uniformly from top to bottom of the sheet by anywhere from 50% to 100%. The holes shall be located in a square array pattern with a spacing in the range of 0.005 to 0.05 inch. The pattern shall be applied over contiguous planar or curved areas of 1 in2 to 10 in2. Typical curved articles would be a right circular cylinder, a right circular cone or the leading edge of a wing. Articles to be perforated will fit in a cubic enclosure 1 foot on edge. The perforated articles are intended for wind tunnel aerodynamic research and ordering quantities 1 or 2 would be typical. Firms having the required specialized capabilities to meet the above requirements should submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references to demonstrate and support that they have the necessary experience and resources to successfully accomplish the described effort. For further information, respondents able to meet the above requirements in whole or in part should contact: NASA Langley Research Center, Attn: Steve Wilkinson, Mail Stop, 170, Hampton, VA 23681-0001, voice: (804) 864-5733, fax: (804) 8348, e-mail: wilk@fmd00.larc.nasa.gov.
