COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF may 25,1995 PSA#1354Commanding Officer, U.S. Coast Guard Operations Systems Center, 175
Murall Drive, Martinsburg, WV 25401 70 -- HARDWARE UPGRADE FOR THE MARINE SAFETY INFORMATION SYSTEM (MSIS)
POC Contact: Contracting Officer: Kathy P. Klein, Ph: (304) 264-2566
The U.S. Coast Guard intends to purchase a RAID7 brand disk suite
system to allow for on-line storage expansion of the MSIS system. This
system will replace four 496MB, ten 770MB, twenty-one 817MB and
sixteen 1.34GB disk drives. MSIS needs at least 24GB of usable on-line
storage to accomodate all of the information in the present system and
to allow for growth until the current PRIME sytem can be replaced. This
RAID7 system upgrade is believed to be the only reasonable and
cost-effective solution. PRIME computers, specifically the PRIMOS
operating system, writes data to its storage devices in 2080-byte
increments, not industry standard 512-byte increments. Because of this,
most RAID devices now available do not effectively utilize all of the
storage space on each hard disk. Additionally, read-write access in
terms of performance is significantly impacted. Further, not all
current RAID devices/suites on the market are capable of communicating
with the PRIMOS operating system, even using industry-standard SCSI
interfaces. RAID7 is the only known system that will interface with the
PRIMOS operating system. NEED a couple of sentences to EXPLAIN PRIMOS
or whatever. The alternative is procurement of new minicomputers to
replace the current PRIME computers. There is no other known short-term
solution to allow for on-line storage expansion of the MSIS system.
This acquisition is for the following: (1) 1 Rackmount Enclosure, (2)
1 486DX-66 Processor/CPU Controller, (3) 1 Array computer board/P1
Parity/16MB Cache, (4) 1 Dual Host I/F SCSI-2 (10MB/sec), (5) 3 Triple
adapter SCSI device Interface/adapter, (6) 1 RAID7 Virtual Storage OS
Run-Time License, (7) 1 RAID7 System Performance Monitor, (8) 1 RAID7
Set-up and Configuration Utility, (9) 1 RAID7 System Diagnostic
Utility License, (10) 7 3.5'' 4GB Disk Drives. The government requires
delivery within 30 days after contract award. Interested firms who can
furnish RAID7 brand equipment or equal are invited to submit clear and
convincing data substantiating their capability to furnish the entire
requirement. This information, including any GSA Schedule Contract, if
applicable, and firm pricing information, shall be included in your
written response. All responses from responsible sources will be
evaluated; however, vendors failing to provide complete information
will not be considered. All responses must be in writing to the above
address, ATTN: Kathy P. Klein. See Numbered Note 22. (0143) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0411 19950524\70-0004.SOL)
