Q -- MEDICAL SERVICES - NURSING HOME CARE POC Contracting Officer, William S. Stapleton, (202)565-8004 The Department of Veterans Affaris is seeking sources for nursing home care services. VA is interested in contracting with nursing home care providers for care of veteran beneficiaries over a multi-state area. the objective is to determine whether VA can realize administrative efficiencies by contracting at the corporate level for nursing home services. Currently, nursing home care contracts are administered at each of 173 VA Medical Centers. VA wishes to determine if there are providers available with the capability to provide such services to veterans requiring multiple levels of care with orders for services coming from many VA facilities. A summary statement of current operating features of VA's ''community nursing home'' program is outlined below. Facts about VA's Community Nursing Home Program: VA's Community Nursing Home (CNH) program is one of three programs serving veterans nursing home care needs. (The others are (1) VA-operated Nursing Home Care Units and (2) State Veterans (Nursing) Homes which are state-operated with partial VA per diem support.) Approximately 3,200 current contracts with nursing facilities nationwide. Approximately 9,000 veterans served nationally in CNHs on any given day. Eligible service-connected veterans can receive care at VA expense indefinitely. Non service-connected veterans can receive a maximum of six months care at VA expense. Veterans are placed close to home and family. Veterans' placements are arranged by VA medical center staff. Montly visits of VA professional staff are conducted to monitor quality of care. Multiple levels of care are provided, e.g., standard skilled, rehabilitation, clinically complex, etc. Firms that are interested in providing this type of service should respond to iclude samples of any similar agreements currently in effect. Response should be submitted by mail to Mr. William S. Stapleton, Director, Acquisition Operations Service, VA Central Office (93), 810 Vermont Avenue, NW Washington, DC 20420. Any questions should be referred to the above named individual at (202) 565-8004 or FAXED to (202) 565-3580. (0138)
