Foley/ Contracting Officer NASA/MSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a Cameca SX-50 Sun Computer Upgrade--NASA/MSFC intends to purchase from Cameca Instruments the following: Cameca SX-50 Sun Computer Upgrade SK Pack System per the following upgrade specifications--This upgrade will replace the obsolete DEC PDP 11/73 computer and analysis software with a Sun Sparc 5 workstation and new analysis software--The two green analog monitors used for SEM imaging and system status will be replaced with a digital frame buffer monitor, and the backscatter detector--Installation will be accomplished by a qualified service representative-- The upgrade is designated as `SXPACK' by Cameca Instruments and includes the following: (1) Sun Sparc Station 5, 70Mhz 20 inch color monitor, VME interface, 32MB ram, 2GB Hard Drive, CD-ROM, 1.44 MB floopy drive, 5GB DAT, ethernet-- (2) All interface cables and boards for complete SX-50 connectivity--(3) Software includes Solaris operating system, C and Fortran compilers, VT100 and DOS emulation, Quantiview, GEO, Beam, Stage, and WDS and imaging--(4) TV rate backscattered detector system--(5) Frame buffered digital imaging monitor which replaces the two existing green analog monitors--(6) Latest SX-50 Firmware, diagnostic software, and all program source code--(7) Installation, testing, training, one year free software updates, and a one year warranty--This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Threshold (SAT) portion of the Federal Acquisition Streamlining Act (FASA)--Request for copies of the RFQ must be submitted in writing--Transmission by facsimile to 205-544-0327 or by Internet e-mail to kenneth.smith@msfc.nasa.gov is acceptable--Note: This sole- source procurement, described is based on proprietary specifications, system compatability requirements, and predominant experience--Interested firms have 15 days from the publication date of this synopsis to submit their qualifications/capabilities in the critical areas mentioned above, along with a request for a copy of the solicitation-- Such qualifications/capabilities will be used solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis--Responses received after the 15 days or without the required information will be considered nonresponsive to the synopsis and will not be considered--A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract, on a full and open competitive basis, based upon responses to this notice, is solely within the discretion of the Government--Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice--The RFQ will be released on or about 15 days after publication of this notice in the Commerce Business Daily (CBD)--The RFQ will have a 15 day response period--All responsible business sources may submit a quote which shall be considered by the agency.
