This is a modification to the original intent synopsis which was published on May 1. That publication did not cite the statutory authority for this acquisition. The statutory authority is 41 U.S.C. 253 (c) (1), FAR 6.302-1. The National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) seeks to procure a high resolution laser scanning confocal microscope for examination of living and fixed biological preparations. The Zeiss LSM System-AR/KR+2PMT's uniquely meets the following minimum requirements of the Government: 1) high image acquisition rate for visualizing rapidly changing specimens; 2) optimal multi-channel imaging; 3) high quality of single and multiple focal plane images; 4) easily adaptable to accommodate a UV laser; 5) accommodates glass/water objectives; 6) has a tilt-back condenser; 7) accommodates the Government owned Zeiss objectives with ''infinity corrected optics''; 8) user-friendly software which requires a minimum of keystrokes/commands for analyzing confocal images, including 3-D reconstruction. Sources may submit in writing a capability statement which demonstrates that they can meet the Government's requirements. This capability statement must be received by June 15, 1995.
