Hampton, Va. 23681-0001 70 -- PURCHASE, MIDPLANE MODIFICATION, AND RUGGEDIZATION OF A SILICON
GRAPHICS ONYX WORKSTATION WITH A VME EXPANSION CHASSIS POC NASA
Langley Research Center, Industry Assistance Office, Mail Stop 144,
Hampton, VA 23681-0001. In order that potential sources may learn of
interest in a specific requirement, an advance notice is published
here. Firms are being sought for the purchase, midplane modification,
and ruggedization of a Silicon Graphics Onyx Computer with a VME
Expansion Chassis. NASA Langley Research Center has a requirement for
a ruggedized SGI Onyx Reality Engine 2 Workstation for use in an
experimental research flight deck onboard a Boeing 757 aircraft.
Software is already under development on an SGI Onyx system, therefore,
this ruggedized system must be compatible with that software. The Onyx
workstation needs to be able to implement a 3 graphics pipe system and
includes but is not restricted to an Onyx RE2 rack, 4MB texture memory,
8x200MHz R4400 CPUs with 4MB secondary cache, 64 MB memory, 1 IMB, and
a 2GB system disk. The graphics pipes include but are not restricted
to a graphics expansion card cage, additional raster manager cards and
a multichannel option with breakout box for each Reality Engine 2
pipe. Software compilers, an 8mm internal drive, and a CDROM are also
required. Non-SGI equipment includes but is not restricted to power
supply to utilize 400 Hz AC power for the equipment, a custom 6U VME
expansion chassis with 20 slots, custom SGI compatible VME extended
cards, 19'' + 24'' racks with cabinets to hold the racks, plus a tested
in-use custom SGI compatible midplane with an additional VME slot and
hardware to connect to the VME expansion chassis. All equipment will be
modified to be acceptable for flight worthy operations in accordance
with EMI/RFI, shock, and vibration requirements for Boeing aircraft as
stipulated by NASA Langley. Maintenance contracts, documentation,
preliminary and critical design reviews, and vendor to customer
communication and interface will be required. Delivery of all items
will be 9 months from vendor receipt of contract. Only SGI authorized
and approved ruggedizers with a systems integrator agreement are
allowed to quote. Firms having the capabilities necessary to meet the
above requirement are invited to submit sales literature addressing
these capabilities and at least one reference from a previous contract,
preferable from a Government agency. (Please provide a contract number,
names of cognizant contract personnel, and an applicable telephone
number on the contract). This synopsis is for information and planning
purposes and does not indicate a commitment by the Government nor that
the Government will pay for information solicited. Respondents will not
be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed
qualified will be considered in any resulting solicitation for the
requirement. Firms responding should indicate whether they are a
socially or economically disadvantaged business firm, a small business,
an 8(a), and/or a women-owned business. The Government reserves the
right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses
hereto. All responses shall be submitted to the NASA Langley Research
Center, Industry Assistance Office, Mail Stop 144, Hampton, VA

announcement. In responding reference SS233. (0132) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0410 19950515\70-0009.SOL)
