965-9495 The Social Security Administration is seeking sources who can
provide a centralized, multiplatform, multiprotocol,
enterprise-oriented management solution for the Interim IWS/LAN
platform. It is estimated that this platform will support up to 12,000
workstations of various operating systems and 1,000 file servers of
different operating systems (primarily Novell NetWare). The solution
should ideally integrate into, but operate separately from, the current
IWS/LAN installation but not significantly increase operational
overhead in the installed base. The platform generally requires
automated interrogation of servers and workstations with centralized
collection of inventory and change history of hardware and software
information into a central database which would physically reside in
Baltimore. The solution is required to have the ability to integrate
new platforms and technologies without the need to reconfigure the
platform. The solution specifications are as follows: Network Platform
o Provide Wide Area Network (WAN) connectivity with the ability to
connect to the WAN and maintain a fault tolerant connection. o Provide
system fault tolerance by having the ability to recover from
communication failures. The solution should be able to generate alerts
and reports concerning communication and system failures. o Must
possess multiprotocol capabilities. The solution must have the
capability to communicate via NetBIOS, IPX/SPX, SNA, and TCP/IP
protocols. o The solution should operate within the hierarchical
communication structure employed by SSA. Version and Configuration
Management o Administration needs to allow for centralization of high
level management and integration of information into a help desk
support platform. o The solution should provide a clear upgrade path
with adequate vendor support. Upgrades should not invalidate collected
data to the time of the upgrade procedure. o The solution should be
compatible with current applications and file types in use by SSA. o
The solution must be capable of operating in and adapting to a
multiplatform environment. The platforms currently identified to be
supported include DOS, Windows, Windows NT, and OS/2. o The solution
must operate in a true Client/Server environment with the central data
residing in a central ODBC compliant SQL database. o The solution
should have economical and clear licensing structure. o The solution
must permit the capability of a centralized, small management group
without compromising lower level help desk support features and
capabilities. Help Desk Features o The solution is required to provide
version management and control at the workstation and file server
level. This includes workstation operating systems such as multiple
versions of DOS, OS/2, Windows, and Windows NT and file server
operating systems such as Novell Netware 2.x, 3.x and 4.x, OS/2 LAN
Server 2.1, and Windows NT 3.5. o The solution is required to provide
configuration management and control at the workstation and file server
level. This includes both software and hardware configuration
management. o Client workstation overhead requirement should be kept to
a minimum. Hard drive storage should be kept below 5MB and TSR
requirements less than 10K. o Remote support of the IWS/LAN client
should include remote control, remote reboot and file transfer
capabilities. Vendors capable of providing a software product with the
above required characteristics are invited to submit complete
information, product descriptions, pricing, brochures, and GSA
schedules - if applicable - about their product. Interested parties
must respond in writing within 15 calendar days from the date of this
publication. Please refer to JQ95E. No contract award will be made on
the basis of responses received. However, this information will be used
in SSA's assessment of capable sources. The Government does not intend
to pay for information received. This is not an RFP. Request for
copies of a solicitation will not be honored or acknowledged. (0129) Loren Data Corp. http://www.ld.com (SYN# 0407 19950510\70-0011.SOL)
