Q -- CENTRAL BIOCHEMISTRY LABORATORY FOR NATIONAL MULTI-CENTER CLINICAL TRIAL POC Tina Brenneman, DPP Manager of Operations, Raymond Bain, Ph.D., Principal Investigator. The contractor will provide Central Biochemistry Laboratory (CBL) services to the Coordinating Center (CoC) for the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), a 24-center clinical trial sponsored by the National Institute of Diabetes, and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). The contract is for the period 9/1/95 - 6/30/01 with a possible extension through 12/31/02. An incrementally funded contract is anticipated; the initial budget period is 9/1/95 - 6/30/96 and annual renewals will be required. Services provided will include collaboration with the study group to establish procedures during the Planning Phase, travel to study group meetings, site visits, and specimen assay, quality control, and reporting of results to the CoC. Approximately 4000 patients will be entered into the trial over a 3 year period. Glucose and HbA1c result turnaround will be one week; other result turnaround will be two weeks. Assays include plasma glucose, HbA1c, fibrinolysis and clotting factors, lipids, beta quant, LDL particle size Lp(a), ApoE phenotype, LDL oxidation state, ApoA, free fatty acids, ApoB and LDL-C, SMAC including uric acid, ICA and GAD antibodies, urine albumin concentration, creatinine concentration and total protein concentration.
