66 -- AUDIO PROJECTION SETS FOR RESPIRATORY PROTECTIVE MASKS SOL N61331-95-R-0039 DUE 061995 POC Shirley Griner, Contract Specialist, (904)235-5354 Mary G. Clark, Contracting Officer, (904)234-4314. Requirement is for the manufacture, test, and delivery of 4000 audio projection sets for respiratory protective masks. The requirement covers a family of portable, battery-powered audio projection set (APS) units for use with the following respiratory protective masks: (a) A-4 oxygen breathing apparatus (OBA) mask; (b) PCU-2/P gas mask; (c) MCU-2A/P gas mask; and (d) Mine Safety Appliances (MSA) emergency air breathing (EAB) mask. Each APS shall be a one-piece, self-contained modification kit for the appropriate protective masks, which shall amplify the user's voice and preferentially project it in the direction that the user is facing, providing highly intelligible, short-range communications among damage control party members wearing the respiratory protective masks. The APS units shall be installable by ships forces, without mask penetrations or other alterations which could compromise mask integrity, and the installation shall not result in restricted head motion or obstructed vision. The intended use of the APS is to provide improved communications for damage control party members during Naval fire fighting, damage control and chemical/biological/radiological (CBR) defense operations. It is not intended to be used for communications throughout large spaces or for long-range communications between different damage control parties. The typical operating environment for fire fighting and damage control includes elevated temperatures, smoke, high humidity and direct application of fire fighting agents (including salt water, aqueous film forming foam (AFFF) and dry chemical agents). The CBR operating environemnt includes exposure to chemical and biological agents, nuclear fallout and decontamination solutions. Delivery is 120 days after contract award. A technical proposal is required. Anticipated contract type is firm-fixed-price. All requests for the solicitation must be in writing. No telephone requests will be accepted. Requests may be faxed to (904)234-4251. (0124)
