The Peace Corps is seeking a qualified individual (not organizations or companies) to serve as a Programming and Training Coordinator in the Africa Region, for a period of two years beginning o/a July 1, 1995. The Coordinator will assume responsibility for providing technical support in training and programming to five to seven country programs. This will entail significant travel to posts in neighboring countries. Coordinators shall conduct assessment of each post's Volunteer and staff training program with an emphasis on needs. Based on identified needs, and in concert with field staff, prepare a training development plan for each country in the sub-region. The Coordinator will plan, organize and conduct courses in trainer development, training management, training design and evaluation. They will also assist in the design and implementation of program and training monitoring and evaluation tools and conduct workshops as necessary to support effective monitoring and evaluation. Successful candidates shall be able to provide administrative, technical, and personal support to Peace Corps programs in several countries. Experience should include: Possession of a relevant master's degree plus two years of relevant experience of at least one year of experience that is directly related to the position and has involved substantive programming and training activities. Desirable qualifications would include at least five (5) years experience in planning, implementation and management of training for grassroots development programs, monitoring and evaluation, written and oral communication skills, as well as administrative, organization and representational skills. Fluency in French or Portuguese is also desirable. In addition, qualified applicants will be evaluated and ranked based on knowledge of and experience working with international development programs based in Africa, especially community-based programs focusing on sustainable development; experience in the design and management of training and trainee activities; good interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to coordinate programs and training activities; demonstrated ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment and to maintain good working relatioships with ministry and other host country national officials and counterparts. Demonstrated flexibility and leadership skills under difficult working conditions. Commitment of a two (2) year contract beginning o/a July 1, 1995 is required. Some personal hardship and lack of modern conveniences should be expected. Housing and transportation will be provided. Successful candidates will need a security clearance.
