COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF MAY 1,1995 PSA#1336USDA, Office of Operations, Room 1547-South Building, 14th &
Independence Ave., SW, Washington, DC 20250 70 -- PRINTER SYSTEM REPLACEMENT POC Contact Point, Beverly Brown,
(202)720-8614 The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Finance
Center (NFC) in New Orleans is seeking comments on a proposed
specification for replacement printers. The objective of this
acquisition will be to increase efficiency and production
quality/quantity. The primary programs supported by the proposed
resources are the NFC Payroll/Personnel system application and the
Thrift Savings Plan. The current environment includes multiple laser
printers with an IBM 982, Bus and Tag Channel, MVS/ESA, JES2 software.
The minimum needs are 20 million images/mo. combined simplex and
duplex, portrait two-across and landscape, cut sheet and continuous
feed text and forms. NFC requires a non-impact printer with minimum
resolution of 240 dpi. BAR code readability minimum is grade ''B'' (per
ANSII specification 3.182X). Regular preventive and remedial on-call (2
hour response 24 hr/day, 365 days/yr) maintenance is required. Also
part of the requirement is training for equipment operators and
supervisors. Options for additional quantities and periods of
performance (up to 72 months) will be included in the specification.
The selection of the replacement printers will consider reliability,
production capacity, quality (particularly bar-code readability by
NFC's Pitney Bowes mailhandling equipment scanners), configuration
flexibility, environmental considerations (space, heat/ac, noise,
etc..) and system's life costs. Written comments on this requirement
should be addressed to the Printer Replacement Project NFC-95-1BB, c/o
Mr. Alan Welchley, National Finance Center, Building 350, 13800 Old
