COMMERCE BUSINESS DAILY ISSUE OF APRIL 27,1995 PSA#1334THIRD INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON SPECTRAL SENSING RESEARCH Ms. Velma
McClinton, (703) 355-3488/Contracting Officer, Mrs. Laverne Bonar,
(703) 355-2627. The third ``International Symposium on Spectral Sensing
Research'' will be held 26 November-1 December 1995 at the Regent
Melbourne Hotel, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. This symposium is
co-sponsored by government (U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force, NASA,
NOAA, USGS, EPA, USDA, DMA, and ORNL). The theme of this unclassified
symposium, ``Crisis Support'', emphasizes developing and exploiting
technologies of common interest to defense and civil agencies, academic
institutions, and commercial endeavors, and the transition of these
technologies between the defense and civil domains. The symposium will
have tutorial presentations, technical sessions and workshops.
Submission of papers is requested from academia, government and
industrial research and development personnel. International
participation is being stressed and encouraged. Papers for platform or
poster sessions will be considered on any spectral sensing topic that
reports on scientific and technological advances concerning the unique
characteristics of spectral sensing of the environment. General science
and technical topics include: (1) Data Collection-(sensors and sensor
systems/platforms, field and laboratory measurements, ground truth
techniques, spectral libraries, data bases, and field spectral
measurements and tools); (2) Spectral Analysis/Processing Systems and
Tools - (data compression, calibration, subpixel/mixed pixel, band
selection, ERDAS, SIPS, HIPS, normalization, sharpening, special
software techniques); (3) Atmospheric Studies and Applications -
(detection, identification and mapping of trace gasses, industrial
plant effluents, and vapor hazard due to spills or accidental release
of volatile chemicals); (4) Oceanographic/Coastal Studies and
Applications - (littoral analysis, oil spills, temperature variation);
(5) Terrestrial and Land Surface Studies and Applications - (stressed
vegetation detection, etc.); (6) Crisis Support and Disaster Studies
- (land utilization, endangered species habitat analysis, flood damage;
and assessment, flood control monitoring); and (7) Australia's
Perspectives on Crisis Support. The deadline for receipt of all
abstracts is 31 May 1995. Earlier submission is requested to facilitate
acceptance and agenda preparation. Registration and abstract submission
