JAPAN: SHORTENING The following notification is being circulated in accordance with Article 10.6. G/TBT/Notif. 95.89. 1. Member to Agreement notifying: JAPAN. If applicable, name of local government involved (Articles 3.2 and 7.2): 2. Agency responsible: Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. 3. Notified under Article 2.9.2. 4. Products covered (HS or CCCN where applicable, otherwise national tariff heading. ICS numbers may be provided in addition, where applicable): Shortening (HS: 1517.90-091). 5. Title and number of pages of the notified document: Establishment of the Quality Labelling Standards for Shortening (available in Japanese, 8 pages). 6. Description of content: (1) The definition of Shortening will be established. (2) The following items shall be indicated collectively: (a) the name of food; (b) the list of ingredients; (c) net contents; (d) the date of minimum durability; (e) the storage instructions; (f) the country of origin (in case of imports); (g) the name of manufacturer; (h) other related items. (3) The method of labelling and the prohibited items of labelling will be established. 7. Objective and rationale: Consumer protection. 8. Relevant documents: The basic law is the Law Concerning Standardization and Proper Labelling of Agricultural and Forest Products. The said amendment will appear in ``KAMPO'' (Official Government Gazette) when adopted. 9. Proposed date of adoption and entry into force: Not yet determined. 10.
