Officer, (407) 494-7091. 17. TELESCOPE ASTRODOME - To house a steerable
tracking telescope mount located on the top of an existing building.
The astrodome is to hemispherical and rotate in azimuth along with the
telescope. Rotation of the astrodome to be effected via an independent
drive mechanism actuated by government supplied electrical motors. The
astrodome contains a shutter assembly with an independent drive
mechanism which can be opened by contractor supplied electrical motors
as well as manually opened from inside the astrodome. The astrodome
rotating assembly mounts on a contractor supplied base ring. The
supporting base ring assembly mounts on a government provided base wall
which will be designed to provide the interface between the building
and the astrodome. Exterior dome diameter 16 to 17 feet. Inside clear
swing 96 inches minimum. The astrodome skin to be reflective aluminum
with no coating. No portion of the astrodome exterior will utilize any
ferrous materials. Thermal skin insulation must be supplied as an
integral part of the dome. Shutter opening to be a minimum of 48 inches
wide to provide for clear viewing from the base ring to past zenith.
Acceptable shutter types are double transverse type or roll up. Either
type is required to be electrically operated with manual backup
capability from within the astrodome. All shutter drive parts are to be
supplied including the electrical motor(s). The azimuth drive shall be
capable of continuous clockwise or counterclockwise rotation. The
azimuth drive components are to be located inside the dome. All azimuth
drive parts are to be supplied with the exception of the electrical
motors. The base ring assembly must be suitable to mount to the top of
a Government supplied base wall. All rollers and hardware necessary to
support the dome are to be supplied. Detailed drawings of the base ring
interface to the wall are to be supplied. The astrodome assembly must
be capable of withstanding without damage 125 mile per hour sustained
winds in a stowed (shutter closed) condition. Complete engineering
drawings, commercial parts lists and operation and maintenance
information are to be supplied. Fabrication drawings to be supplied for
approval prior to construction. FOB Patrick AFB FL. To be delivered
disassembled with suitable instructions for government field assembly.
Delivery required 60 days after contract award. Anticipated issuance
date is 05/15/95. The applicable SIC code for this acquisition is 3827
